In December 2012 Harris pulled the plug on it’s Broadcast Division which was sold to an industry outsider, Gores Group (Harris Sells Broadcast Division to Industry Outsider ). The question at the time was what would happen to the new Harris Broadcast. SCRI polled broadcast execs for their thoughts on the future of the newly formed company (Harris BCD Poll Results & Comments and  Update: Harris BCD Post Acquisition by Gores Group)

TV Technology just announced today that Harris Broadcast  “is undergoing a post-acquisition realignment that includes staff cuts and operational changes.”  And that since the acquisition, there has been “a quiet shuffling on the management level and a reduction in support staff”.

CEO Harris Morris stated that the staff reductions would be less than 10% over the year on a post acquisition staff count of around 1,700. In November Harris Broadcast laid off 17 people (Harris Broadcast Repositions, Cuts Staff)

SCRI’s survey back in December showed that 58% of broadcast execs polled expected that the sale and rebranding would not impact sales negatively and that broadcasters will continue to buy Harris products. Most of these stated that all will be well for Harris Broadcast so long as they maintain their product lines and legacy brands and do not resort to cost cutting, product streamlining and staff layoffs.

Could this recent layoffs announcement be the start of a cost cutting and product-streamlining trend? Time will tell….stay tuned.
